The ultimate guide to IELTS exam

IELTS is available into two versions: academic and general (Academic and General Training). The academic direction is addressed to candidates interested in studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level in English-language schools or programs.

The general direction examines the use of language in a more practical level and is aimed at those who are going to look for work or complete their secondary education in English-speaking countries.

In each examination candidates have common themes in the oral examination (Speaking) and in the understanding of spoken language (Listening), while on the written examination (Writing) and reading comprehension (Reading) they are examined in Academic or General Training topics.

The test consists of the following four (4) sections:

  • Understanding of spoken language (Listening)

  • Reading Comprehension (Reading)

  • Oral examination (Speaking)

  • Written examination (Writing)
